At Sancta Maria College, we are proud to promote environmental awareness and sustainability through our Green-Schools Programme. Our dedicated Green-Schools Committee works to inspire positive environmental action within our school and local community.
Last academic year, we successfully completed our first Green-Schools theme – Litter and Waste. Throughout the year, our committee led several initiatives to reduce waste and encourage recycling across the school. These included classroom recycling drives, litter awareness campaigns, regular litter pick-ups, and creative poster competitions to promote responsible waste management. We also encouraged the use of reusable bottles and lunch containers to help minimise single-use plastics.
In recognition of our hard work and commitment, two of our Green-Schools Committee members proudly represented Sancta Maria College at the Green-Schools Award Ceremony in DCU in May 2025, where we were officially presented with our first Green Flag – a fantastic achievement for our whole school community!
For the 2025/26 school year, we have now begun our second Green-Schools theme – Water. This theme encourages us to learn about the importance of water conservation, water safety, and protecting our local water systems. As part of Climate Action Week, our Green-Schools Committee recently carried out a litter pick along the Dodder River, helping raise awareness about the importance of keeping our waterways clean and healthy.
